What is
Personalized Nutrition?

We wouldn’t be surprised if you are confused about which "diet" might be best for you. As you read online, listen to the daily news, or tune into podcasts, you can hear about the pros and cons of just about every diet out there. This might leave you scratching your head about nutrition advice and what to eat.

  • Are fats good or bad?

  • Am I eating enough protein or too much?

  • Are carbs the problem?

First, it is important to know that the term “diet” comes from the Greek word “diaita” meaning a way of life or lifestyle. However, in our society, the term diet has a negative connotation typically associated with avoiding foods or being deprived. At Ross Nutrition Team we like to use the term “food plans” to overcome this negativity.

We have government guidelines for the recommended daily intake of macronutrients (protein, fats, and carbohydrates) and micronutrients (vitamins and minerals) for our overall population; however, there isn't a single food plan or dietary guideline that is right for everyone. The reality is that the science shows us there are benefits to most food plans for overall health and well-being and a variety of health concerns. There isn’t a “one-size-fits-all” approach to nutrition.

Personalized nutrition focuses on the person rather than the population. While a consensus on the exact definition remains unclear, personalized nutrition incorporates your uniqueness—your health history, genetics*, preferences, behaviors, etc. to establish a plan and behavior changes that result in measurable health benefits. Further, personalized nutrition incorporates the science of nutrition to use food as information. Food can communicate a message of health or a message of illness. Needless to say, we want to promote the message of health!

Dr. Ross and her team are educated in nutrition science and therefore a variety of food plans (i.e., Mediterranean, Ketogenic, vegetarian, gluten-free, low-histamine, etc.) and have a comprehensive understanding of the unique needs everyone has when it comes to nutrients.

Rather than adopting any one food plan, the common denominator to our personalized food plans is that it focuses on real food.

Most importantly, we recommend a personalized food plan that is tailored to YOU

and can become your way of life to help you achieve the health goals you desire.
