Did you overindulge or maybe simply indulge in the Super Bowl Sunday festivities?
Monday is here...so it is time to get back on track and leave Sunday behind you so you can continue to achieve or maintain your health goals.
Here are some tips to “recover from” Super Bowl Sunday:
HYDRATE! While you should be doing this every day, be sure to consume 64-80 oz. of water today. This will help to reduce water retention and detoxify the body. For added alkalizing effects, add lemon to your water.
Don’t eat those leftovers! Leave the Sunday food choices behind and get back to your regular food plan. The biggest problem with parties or festivities is that they don’t ever seem to last just 1 day! Consuming the leftovers just prolong how you feel and inhibit you from reaching your goals. Sunday is over---you can’t change what you may have eaten during the Big Game, but you have all day today to make GREAT choices!
Increase your veggie intake—Pay special attention to vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower, Brussel sprouts, cabbages, kale and green leafy veggies. They are especially beneficial to help the body’s detoxification process. Consider choices like cauliflower pizza, cauliflower mash, a spinach and kale salad loaded with other veggies and a protein (like chicken or turkey) and fat source (like avocado or olive oil).
MOVE and SWEAT! Moving will help to relieve digestive discomfort and if you move fast enough and start sweating you will also be releasing toxins from the body via sweat. Be sure to get in an exercise class or a good walk today.
Is your digestive tract talking to you? If the food choices left your bowel habits confused, consider Magnesium Citrate if you are feeling constipated. Or you can also consider taking an Epsom Salt bath tonight. Epsom salt contains magnesium, and when absorbed in the skin through the bath, can produce a fairly quick BM for most people. And if you are soaking in a nice hot tub, you are also getting the detox benefits of sweating! Also, peppermint oil, applied topically, can help to relieve bloating. Apply 1-2 drops of peppermint oil along with a carrier oil, such as coconut oil to your abdomen, rubbing it in a clockwise direction.
Get to bed early tonight. You might be dragging today energetically from the long night and the food choices. Make it a point of being in bed a little earlier to get a restorative night’s sleep.
Be kind to yourself! Many times, we tend to be hard on ourselves when we “fall off the wagon”. Don’t feel like you failed at your healthy way of life. Use this as a learning experience on what to do when the next party rolls around.
